The "current state of neuroscientific understanding" is, may I suggest, wholly irrelevant to people's beliefs and faiths. So why mock them?
People should be free to believe in whatever they choose, even if it is not validated by that modern God With Feet Of Clay, Science. Firstly, the understanding of Science is still incomplete, 'work in progress' and subject to corrections. More importantly, these are special fields of endeavour so it's unfair to judge one by the other. Lastly, if people wish to believe anything, let them do so, as long as it makes them better persons in the real world, what's wrong? Maybe we should start searching out the long list of myths promoted by the world of Science... but that's way off-topic.
