Hi all interested even tangentially in issues related to software and computing:
Just an update on what we're planning for the ECAP (Sept 16-17,2006), which this year coincides with the Software Freedom Day. ECAP, as you know, is the Exhibition of Computers and Allied Products, held by the Computer Society of India (Goa chapter) around this time of the year at Hotel Mandovi. * Santosh Kamat has confirmed that we're getting the Rampon hall this year too. * We're taking a small stall in the main exhibition venue. What you can do to help: * Keep your talks ready ... we need talks that draw new audiences. * Volunteers needed, specially to help man the stall/arrange talks. * Your support, by way of your presence. * Creating useful posters, or downloading the same from the Net (for stall) * Offer with resources to meet costs * Physical infrastructure... particularly demo-able laptops, and a LCD projector. * Create hand-outs to visitors to the stall. Funds permitting, this can be circulated/sold. DP has been kind enough to volunteer with the talk-related infrastructure. Bijon Shaha has offered to talk on Saturday (he's travelling on Sunday) provided a LCD projector is available, for maximum impact of the talk. Please make your suggestions about what we could hold talks on. Your suggestions are welcome. LFY (the magazine, Linux For You) has, like last year, already sent us two packages of their earlier issues of magazines for distribution/sale. Looking forward to your support! Prachi Amonkar of the GEC-LUG writes in to say: "As you know, we're planning to celebtate Software Freedom Day in the GEC (Goa Engineering College) too.... This year, Alok Kamat (the creator of EngicOS) has modified Slax Linux to boot from 256 MB USB drive. May be we'll distribute that instead of Knoppix Live CDs. We're also (tentatively) planning for a webcast open to all students of GEC...." Prachi invites speakers willing to give talks on September 16, 2006 (coming Saturday). She writes: "I've heard that Mr. Bijon Shaha has prepared a superb presentation on multimedia in Linux. I'm sure GEC students will love it...." --FN -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Frederick Noronha http://fn.goa-india.org 9822122436 +91-832-240-9490 http://fredericknoronha.wordpress.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/fn-goa/ _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
