Some time ago, after my appeal for for a museum, Cecil Pinto suggested privately that a first step would be the creation of a cyber-museum.
I think that is an excellent idea. A sort of foretaste,a kind of dip into the market, to probe the possible interest and to see if it would generate any momentum. All it needs is someone to be a co-ordinator, interesting and factual descriptions of the exhibits and generating enthusiasm among readers and viewers to participate and contribute pictures. Preferably a guest book with stats of visitors' hits. Just a few starting suggestions: A stern-looking ancestor and the circumstances of his photograph. A typical "chapel" in a house and what moved the homeowner to install it. An ivory statue of St. Sebastian made from the tusk of an old African elephant and how it came to Goa. A palanquin used to carry the village priest in ceremony. The family photograph of a Goan family in early Zanzibar. An old Goan bakery in Dhobitalao circa 1925 A letter written by a tarvotti wife describing her travails to her husband on the ship. A Goan Gymkhana in some African country and the first committee. Photos of famous Goans. and so on and so forth, ideas best left to people themselves. Joegoauk, you are the goanet pictures man. How about a section devoted to Goan history to Rrrroll out the Rrrrrim as our Tim Horton coffee people would say. Rene Barreto, George Pinto, Marlon Menezes keen young internet savvy Goans, annnnnnnnnyone out there willing to lend a hand to history? _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
