Whoa, Mario. Do go slow. Don't try to act as judge, jury and executioner all rolled into one... that too, without knowing the facts adequately.
* Firstly, publications in Goa pay their writers very poorly -- in a situation of considerable politicking. That's why, anyone who can make it would prefer to write for the outstation media. Had people like me to depend on the media in Goa for my freelancing work since 1994, the situation would have been one close to penury. * Some writers *are* already semi-blacklisted by the media in Goa. Unless there's a yawning gap waiting to be filled, I find it more difficult to get published in Panjim, then on say the BBC website. * Most of Goanet's contributors and writers don't have a "hand that feeds them" relationship with the media in Goa. So if they want to, they can be critical. * The challenge is how to open up more space for people to express themselves, and for more diverse views to come up. Including critical perspectives. Not just to condemn baby with bath-water, your average writer with media major-players. You've just taken one strand out of Selma's argument ... and not necessarily the most pertinent one! FN PS: An interesting case of the media coverage in the Siolim suspected murder is emerging now. More on that later.... Off to Panjim.
