It is indeed a well accepted fact that most of the older persons who write Konkani in the Devanagri script are also fluent in Marathi. [This, of course, excludes most of the students of Konkani in Goan schools in the post 1992-93 Konkani medium Primary schools, who are fluent in NO language].
The former Editor of Goa's ONLY Konkani newspaper in Devanagri script Konkani, Raju Nayak, wrote in Marathi newspapers before and after his stint as Editor in Konkani. The Goa Bureau in charge of the Marathi newspaper PUDHARI, Prabhakar Dhage, will speak at the felicitation function of the former Editor of SUNAPARANT, Raju Nayak. Dhage was recently in the eye of the storm [in a tea cup?] raised by the protagonists of Konkani in Devanagri script ONLY for having said that the contribution of Varde Valaulikar aka Xenoi Goembab to Goa and Konkani was not as it was made out to be. Dhage and Ulhas Buyao [of 'Chandnneache Rati' fame] were to be ostracised and boycotted by the Devanagri Konkani protagonists. I wonder if these worthies will have the courage to prevent Raju Nayak from receiving the award at Nanutel Hotel, Margao, this evening at 5.)) P.M. Raju Nayak, after everything is said and done is the IMMEDIATE PAST EDITOR of the Daily newspaper , SUNAPARANT. Viva Goa.
