Sunith, I will not reply in depth to your response, not because I don't want to, but because essentially you have made your point and I have made mine.
I will just clarify two arguments of yours. Roland writes: For example you quickly sidestep the issue of enforcement of existing legislation with telling us how civic attitudes are slowly being made to change from school levels upwards. Sunith responds: These issues are not independent. Law enforcement is done by human beings not machines. If no one thinks littering is wrong, the cops are not going to be held responsible for not enforcing anti-littering laws. Do you wish to say Sunith, that if everyone thinks speeding and drunk-driving is harmless and indulges in it, despite the law, the cops are not going to be held responsible for enforcing those laws? I shall be every interested in your reply. Next Sunith, you accuse me of doomsday predictions when I say Goa has not the luxury of time. Did I say that Goa is doomed when I said Goa is depreciating? Do you believe Goa is appreciating? On the basis that a forest offcial is doing his job well? Is that enough for everybody? At whose pleasure does the official function? His boss who is equally upgright and efficient and that bosses boss and so on? Is there a pattern of uprightness there? And do you think the economic boom in India or Goa will last forever? Perhaps I am making another doomsday prediction. But I have seen business and global cycles while I venture to say you have not. And lastly you betray yourself when you say you had the life of England's rich and famous without being being too rich and famous while in Goa. Unfortunately Sunith, young Goans like yourself measure themselves on what money can buy rather than the quality of life that should really underpin it for even those who cannot afford what you can.
