Miguel GTDC to recruit 100 lifeguards NT Staff Reporter Panaji, Sept 21: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation will recruit 100 lifeguards on contract basis as a part of its plan to ensure safety on the Goan coastline, besides near the water bodies on the tourism map for the upcoming tourist season. The GTDC chairperson, Ms Fatima de Sa addressing a press conference, this evening, also informed that the corporation also plans to construct a new Paryatan Bhavan, at Patto, so as to ensure that tourists have all their needs met under one roof. The managing director of the corporation, Mr Sanjit Rodrigues was also present on the occasion. The decisions were taken during the 103rd board meeting of the GTDC, held earlier during the day. Speaking to reporters after the board meeting, Ms de Sa said that the lifeguards, 20 of whom would be women, will undergo rigorous training. She said that one of the decisions taken by the board was to build the new 6-storey building at Patto after demolishing the existing one. The project will be funded by the state government, she added. The total built up area for the Paryatan Bhavan will be 9,390 sq metre and the design for the same will be chosen after a national level competition for architects. The Paryatan Bhavan will house the GTDC as well as various state government tourism offices and have facilities to help the tourists who visit the state. The other decisions taken by the board include the development of the Pomburpa spring at the cost of Rs 70 lakh and the Palolem Residency at Canacona to cater to middle class tourists. Ms de Sa informed that presently Canacona has no facilities for middle class tourists and this project will be constructed on the ice factory land, for which the GTDC holds a 99-year lease. The design for the Residency is ready, she said, pointing out that it will house 40 rooms, a swimming pool and a dormitory for bus drivers. The GTDC also plans to build swimming pools at its Colva, Miramar and Calangute residencies and upgrade them to 3-star status, the GTDC chairperson disclosed.
