I am really proud of these Non-Christian Tiatrists of Goa. I want to add Shrirang Narvenkar from Mapusa to the list.. How these non-Christian artistes change their accents and give out such great performances that it is almost impossible to recognize them as non-Christians. Way back when I first saw the acting of the then youthful, slim, beautiful and sexy Goan Tiatrist Roshan (I didn’t know her name then) on stage, I was really quite impressed with her. So after the show backstage, I asked Prince Jacob who that beautiful heroine was? And Jacob said “Don’t you know Roshan?” I was completely flabberghasted. Roshan was a fantastic actress.

But someone made a mistake here on the list.
Mike Mehta is not a Hindu. He is a Christian like Prem Kumar. By the way “Shali Baii” from “Shempia Miguel’s” lokam-khell group is not a Hindu. He is a Christian toddy-tapper hailing from Paroda. But Shali Baii looked very cute and more beautiful than any village beauty, just like the late Christopher(grand-son of Cuncolim and of Chris-Meena fame), with whom many men danced thinking s/he was a girl. So don’t add Shai Baii too.

Mike Mehta is Goa’s criminal lawyer and his original name is Michael Rodrigues. I knew him in Guardian Angel High School in Sanvordem and he was one year junior to me. He never spoke Konkani and acted in English school plays and he had come down from Bombay and lived in Sanvordem. So I was surprised when I found out he was acting in Konkani Tiatro later. I met him once in Bombay where he was in Law College. That reminds me, I met another boy from Sanvordem in Bombay once. He was living at Avelino’s , next door to the boarding. So when I asked him in Konkani where he lived in Bombay, he replied in English “Chandanwaddy”. Then I asked him what kind of job he did. He said “Temporwaddy’. I had enough and said goodbye to him and went to have some “Taddy” near our Club.

More about Guardian Angel High School, which I guess now is a “College”.

Mathany Saldanha was 2 years junior to me and was always speaking English and his gait was like that of a proud Bhattkar, always looking down on everybody. So I was very much surprised that later he was heavily involved with the “Fishermen’s Union” or “Ramponnkar”. How people change?. You couldn’t get one word out of him at school. I guess we were not in his league then. I guess he won’t remember me, but you can tell him I was the “Bauji” or "Babuji" at boarding school and I was the one who was constantly being caught speaking Konkani and Fr. Gervasio Pinto punished me a few times and I had to kneel down on the stony ground in front of all girl students walking by in front of our Boarding school at 8 am. Kosli loz re baba. Oh those were the days.

The other noteworthy scholarly student and my classmate was Pramila Fernandes, who later became a teacher at the same school and married the world renowned Indian scientist Dr. Norman Lewis from Khar, Mumbai, who later died unfortunately soon after. Norman was a fine gentleman and his mansion at Khar covered almost two blocks.

Oh yea, I cannot forget Tiatrist Remmie Colaco from Sanvordem who used to play with us on the School soccer ground and his wife was a teacher at our School.

And who can forget characters like “BOBKO”, “KETKAR” from our school? And those boarding boys would always pick locks of my trunk and steal eat all my goodies brought by my mom. whenever she visited me, I guess they had their CIDs everywhere. And those bugs (bikunn) from our cots would fill any blood bank in North America. In hot Summer, when water was scarce, those kids would come and steal water from our buckets or tambio at night. And those Bombay boys from the boarding, used to escape on the sly at night to spend time with their girlfriends and others would go for a Hindi movie in a Cinema Theatre strangely Called “Niagara” and I didn’t even know what or where Niagara was then. But of course later I learnt about Canada in a geography book by Sohan Lal, just like that famous Grammar book by “Wren and Martin”. . I even bought a copy to Canada as these Canadians don’t know their Grammar and there is no better book than “Wren and Martin”, right mhatreamno? . I wish I could see the faces of all my schoolmates now? Te/Tim Khoim assat kai?
