3 international airlines to operate flights to Goa

Special Correspondent

1) TransAir
2) Sri Lankan Airlines
3) new Groups from Latvia and Czech Republic

PANAJI: Three international airlines will operate their scheduled flights to
Goa beginning this tourist season.

"TransAir will start operating once a week from October this year a flight
between Moscow and Goa," Ralph de Souza, president of Travel and Tourism
Association of Goa (TTAG), told The Hindu on Wednesday.

"Sri Lankan Airlines will start flights between Colombo and Goa twice a week
from the end of next month and Condor, which will operate two flights a
week — one from Munich and one from Frankfurt — to Goa, has also unveiled
its plans to continue its scheduled flights round the year beginning April
2007," said Mr. de Souza.

"Goa this season is looking forward to close to 800 chartered flights as
against around 719 last year," Mr. de Souza said. Some new Groups from
Latvia and Czech Republic were expected to arrive in Goa this season joining
hands with Scandinavian and German flights.

"Notwithstanding a four-month-long off-season in the first half of the year,
the State has already received around 8.59 lakh domestic and 1.93 lakh
foreign tourist from January to June this year. Considering that the full
tourist season is still ahead, Goa is expecting to surpass easily last
year's arrivals of 19.65 lakh domestic and 3.36 lakh foreign tourists," said
Pamella Mascarenhas, Deputy Director, Tourism.

Mr. de Souza said that considering the inherent limitations of the Dabolim
airport, which was undergoing expansion and renovation, the scheduled
flights and chartered flights would have to have an mutually accommodative
approach.
