Expert was deputed to examine, dispose Battlo’s grenade: Army HERALD NEWS DESK
PANJIM, OCT 7 – Contrary to the police version, Army authorities have asserted that their expert was indeed deputed to the Goa Police for examination and disposal of the grenade recovered from Tariq Ahmed Battlo. It may be recalled that Herald had carried a report entitled “Grenade disposal: Cops to seek court’s advice” last month in which the police had blamed the army authorities for not co-operating with them on the issue. Lt Col R Alagarraj of the 2 Signal Training Centre in a press release states that the fact is that a qualified Army expert was sent to examine the grenades and carry out the disposal of the same. “Police authorities at that time did not want to dispose off the grenades”, he made it clear. Lt Col Alagarraj further states that the police however wanted him to examine the sealed envelope containing the grenade and issue a certificate on the lethality and other characteristics of the contents for use in court as evidence for the prosecution, which the Army expert was lawfully not authorized to do. The same was conveyed to the police by the Army authorities, he said adding that the allegations made against the army in the report are baseless and misleading. [HND] Satyameva Jayate.
