DUBAI Two late strikes gave St. Anthonys Pernem a hard-fought 3-2 win against St. Estevam in their last Group A match in the third all-Goa Inter-village Invitation Football Tournament at the Iranian Club stadium here yesterday. St. Anthonys Pernem drew the first blood when Sandy Fernandes fired them into a 9th minute lead but Joseph Fernandes drew St. Estevam on level two minutes later. St. Estevam then went in front 2-1 through Wilfred Rodrigues eight minutes into the second session. St. Anthonys Pernem, however, did not give up the fight and their mounting pressure paid off for Darryl Rasquinha, who was voted Man of the match, to knock in from close range to put his side on level 2-2, three minutes from the end. Renato Fernandes then struck with a minute to go to grab an exciting 3-2 victory for St. Anthonys Pernem. With the victory, St. Anthonys Pernem gathered six points to move to third behind FR Angel Pilar (8pts) and Vanxim Divar (15) in Group A and a place in the quarter-finals. St. Estevam finished their group matches without a win, with only a point from a draw. St. Estevam had themselves to blame for the defeat as they threw away a number of gilt-edges chances in both session. The best chance for St. Estevam was by Sean Fernandes when he dribbled past the keeper Trevlynn Rodrigues but he hesitated for Rodrigues to recover saving his goal-bound effort. In the second match of the day, Aldona United defeated Raia 2-0 to move to the top of Group B with 11pts. Johnny Dias, who was later voted Man of the match, opened the scoring with a fine effort in the 16th minute of the second-half. Lloyd Fernandes sealed the scores with the second goal three minutes later.
