Goa teacher wins scholarship to teach in Leicester Indo-Asian News Service London, Oct 18 (IANS) Remy Rodrigues, a teacher from Goa, has won the Merlyn Vaz Scholarship that was set up in Leicester in memory of the late mother of the India-origin Labour MP, Keith Vaz.
As part of the scholarship, Rodrigues will teach at the Sacred Heart Primary School in Leicester. The scholarship runs for four months, from April to July 2007. Merlyn Verona Vaz, a teacher, died in October 2003. She was originally from Goa and taught in both Britain and India. She was Leicester's first female Asian councillor.
