Hello Joe,
I read your article, and it was good to remember the days of old. There is
nothing that can beat the Ferry Travel. Although the wait was about 40 to 60
minutes depending on the time if one misses the ferry, still it was never a
lonely wait. Always meeting someone or the other.
Now that there is no more the Ferry travel, one can witness the scene in our
wonderful Corjuem. The age old custom of unity has vanished which I
witnessed last time I was down. Also traveling to Corjuem is becoming a bit
expensive, especially for me now that I don't reside in Corjuem any more.
Almost 40 rupees by either motor cycle, or Rickshaw, if not a wait for the
bus from Aldona. Prior to that it was a regular trip to Corjuem by the
ferry.
People residing in Cuxem, do find it hard as I have been told, as the Bus
trip is from the chapel onwards. So there are hardships instead of ease of
the bridge as was foretold. The only people who find it advantageous are
those who have vehicles. The daily walk from ferry to home, a good exercise
has also been lost. It was no doubt lost for some earlier too, as there were
motorbikes to take them to their home.
I believe the Quitla people and Gondcoi people enjoy the bridge, as they can
go to the corjuem club, which is more nearer to them, than to some corjuem
people.
Cheers and Good wishes
Jerry Fernandes
Former Corjuemkar
