I take what you say, but will need the patience of Job in future. Hadn't sent my tribute to my parents earlier as I was awaiting your response. As you've reminded me of it, here goes.(Mind you, the poem was written 2 years after the Tilawa disaster. " IN MEMORIAM" "My mother was snatched at too early an age My father soon followed that same old stage, And left us three brothers, quite helpless, alone To bear the yoke which they had borne. My mother's death took place at home Where all of us did weep and mourn But my father's was a death at sea, It tore our hearts, and orphaned three! My Dad with step-mum and children three Was sailing to Africa full of glee; He smilingly said, "I'll come back soon", But we knew not death would call so soon. So sudden God's summons, so quick the deep sea Did swallow them all, O Destiny! No time to say farewell, no time to say, 'wait, Death's cold gatekeeper had opened the gate! And now that he's gone, we can murmur not But trust in God for that's our lot, And trusting in Him who reigns on high we'll patiently wait till the end draws nigh. Then Daddy and Mummy soon shall we meet When death has silenced our last heart beat, Together then we'll live forever and ever In Heaven so beautiful, we shall part -no NEVER! (This poem features in my published memoirs) -but regretfully, one I composed when we lost our 2-year old son in Kenya, was sadly not included(Publishers deadline etc) If it will not bore any of netters, I'm reproducing this too- also "IN MEMORIAM" "October 10th(1956) was a day of joy For to us was born our second boy, Of angelic beauty but frail physique Yet destined to live in this world so bleak For months past birth, we ne'er knew That his days with us would be so few Until one day our hearts were torn When his troubles to us, a Specialist made known A congenital heart is what he had The thought of which could drive one mad, But bravely and patiently he struggled through Hoping that someday, he'd be fit anew. Despite his health he travelled afar By plane and truck and motor car, Oft a spell in hospital he spent Struggling hard for life under an oxygen tent. >From the N.F.D. to Kisii with us he came Not knowing that here he'd always remain The weather didn't suit, but he still ensured That Mum and Dad and Clyde kept cheered A sad day 'twas when on January 3rd(1958) For the last time his sweet voice we heard He breathed his last- oh, so suddenly! For you darling Conrad, we'll mourn unceasingly (To the everlasting memory of our adorable son Conrad, these verses are proudly dedicated) Note:N.F.D. refers to Kenya's Northern Frontier Province where I spent many years on the Ethiopian border Medical facilities were non-existent and on many occasions Conrad and my wife(Elsie) had to be flown out to Nairobi). Kisii is a town in what was Nyanza Province not far from Lake Victoria where I also served. Apologies to all for the length of this post.
