RESPONSE: St. Pauli Girl is Brewed and bottled by Becks of Bremen. I guess Becks must have had some good connection in Lisbon. Incidentally, one Goan from the rust belt of the USA swears by Becks ! So there must be some premium in the stuff. Even today, there are a few old men here in London, who I know, are fond of Macieira, the Portuguese Brandy. I guess it is an acquired taste...Vanilla flavour, with honey ? As far as I am aware Macieira is not available in London. A fine substitute with more body is Sandeman's Portuguese Brandy; as you must know, Sandeman are one of the oldest firms who produce Port Wine. My late cousin from Cascais, had told me that there are some classy brandy available in Portugal, unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of tasting any yet. http://www.thewinedoctor.com/tastingsprofile/sandeman.shtml Getting close to Christmas, must start stocking up on all these goodies, including Valmiki's favourite Baileys cream -:)) -- DEV BOREM KORUM.
