Does this young man require an introduction? Here I have this artiste, who is all set to give his best once again in upcoming Konkani one act play competition being organized by United Club of Utorda. Recently I spoke to Ignatius as to know what makes him to be devoted to "character acting" and his interest for the Konkani stage. Ignatius replied: "Acting is in my blood as I come from theatrical background". Ignatius was first seen on Konkani stage at the age of eleven in Santan D'Costa's tiatr held in his native place. As a child he has shown his love for singing and soon turned into an outstanding singer. Later he took up acting with professional actors. Besides singing and acting in Konkani tiatrs his talents and versality were well recognized by others as well and have acted in Marathi and Hindi stage shows (as part of an orchestra) and dramas. His memorable role is in Devidas Baba's play "EK FULL DOXINCHEM" where he enacted the character role of "MAMA" to a spellbound audience. It was "this MAMA's magic" which lead him to accept more character roles and then propelled him to be known as "character actor" of repute. During our discourse, the question came whether he can do the comedy roles or not? And once again the answer was "yes". He did numerous comedy skits and side-show items alongside veteran Konkani stage artistes including Hortencio Pereira, late Greg (Greg/Sabina fame) and Goa's immortal Charlie Chaplin "late Jacinto Vaz", etc. He has acted with the stalwarts of Konkani stage like Mike Metha's "POLITIC", John Claro's "TAMDI MATI", as well as for Tony Car's "ORDHO KAZARI" and Milagres de Chandor's "RAKHNO". He is fond of traditional Khell Tiatr (which are mostly performed on open ground), and he enjoyed acting in the same for Bernard Cardoz, Salvaldor Alphonso, Martin de Macazana - to name the few. He appeared as a guest artiste for Prince Jacob's show, where appreciation and praises were showered for his hard work. To his credit he has his first Konkani album "LIPLELE TIATRIST" with meaningful songs, and also featured in others Konkani albums of William de Curtorim's (Montreancho Rock N Roll), Cajetan de Curtorim's (Marekar Acxident Plane Crash). He attributes the success of his Konkani album "LIPLELE TIATRIST" to Jose Rod for not only singing two memorable songs that brought extra nostalgia for album and is thankful for Jose Rod's kindness in introducing him to "V.P. Sinari". Alister Miranda wrote in the Gomantak Times "The Sinaris music label has unleashed yet another hot-selling Konkani audio. This time Sinaris has backed a relatively unknown Konkani singer Ignatius de Xelvon and his maiden presentation "Liplele Tiatrist" and the audio does not disappoint. In fact, pleasant surprises keep jumping our right through". Ignatius de Xelvon's prowess is infinite and the evidence is United Club of Utorda (UCU's) First One Act Play Competition held in Kuwait in 2000. Ignatius was declared "Best Actor" in Simon Gonsalves's play "DEVACHO GHUTT DEV ZANAM". In KHK-YRC organized one act play competition, Ignatius surprised and mesmerized all by directing "EK ZADD VODDACHEM" to lift the "First Prize", "Best character actor (male)", and "Best character actor (female)", including also a nomination for "Best stage setting". His other Konkani plays presented at the UCU annual competitions were "Suriak Laglem Girrann" (1st Prize) and "Ho Pordhes" (3rd Prize). A shy and soft spoken artiste that he is, gratefully acknowledges "I would like to convey my special thanks to popular writer-directors for casting me in tiatrs and my very special thanks to United Club of Utorda. My very special thanks to the Konkani lovers in Kuwait for accepting me as an actor". His second Konkani album "KHOREM BANGAR" was dedicated to the audience who support upcoming artistes on the Konkani stage ? both in Kuwait and back home in Goa. - Domingos Araujo _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [email protected] http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org
