India's Mary wins Asian Junior chess title Indo-Asian News Service New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) Woman International Master Mary Ann-Gomes of India won the gold at the under-20 girls' Parsvnath Asian Junior Chess Championship here Tuesday and also secured her second Woman Grandmaster norm. In the boys' section, top seeded Grandmaster Nguyen Ngoc Troungson of Vietnam won the gold after a draw with India's M. Shyam Sundar in the final round. Both ended up with seven points but Sundar lost in the tie-breaker to finish second. Mary, ranked No. 2 in the country, drew her ninth and final round game with P. Lakshmi Sahiti. A few weeks ago the 17-year-old had won the bronze medal in the World Under-18 Championship. Along with the triumph, Mary also earned her second Women Grandmaster norm. She now needs only one more norm to become India's next WGM. "I hope to make it in the Commonwealth championship starting in a few days," she said after her win. It was a clean sweep by the Indian girls as the four tied at the top on seven points. After the tie was resolved, Kiran Manisha Mohanty won the silver medal while Lakshmi Sahiti won the bronze. The fourth place went to R. Preethi. Apart from Mary, Lakshmi and Kiran were the other big gainers as they got their Women IM title. Troungson won the title after a hard fought draw with Sundar, a class IX student from Chennai, in the final round. This is a big achievement for little-known Sundar who also secured the IM title. The third place went to G.
