Now I am beginning to believe that some NRIs make remarks that are totally out of touch with reality. Why don't taxi-drivers take part-time classes in another skill? Because they are poor. They generally have atleast 5 mouths to feed. They take bank loans to buy these taxis and need to make regular payments or face repossession. They are not some uppies from NY, who can avail of government assistance and acquire a second skill and even if they do there is no guarantee that this second skill-set will produce a viable livelihood. RESPONSE: Really Mario? Which parallel universe are you living in, where labour doesn't get exploited? If the free-market was such an equaliser in dispensing fair treatment to labour, how come America has some of the world's toughest legislation to protect labour? All of this legislation came about because some exploited labourer went to the National Labour Relations Board and fought for it. Infact, much of this protection came in the Union dominated 70s. Yes, unions have outlived their purpose now, but they were absolutely necessary to herald the kind of protection that labour enjoys today. Are left-wingers some sort of ogres that want business to come to a grinding standstill, while they rub their hands in glee? This post was about the work culture and working conditions in India. I don't know why it has lapsed into US employment rate but then tangential comments are easier than commenting on the subject at hand. selma -------------------------------- ____________________________________________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
