Seminar on the Internationalization of Education at St. Xavier’s

On the 14th of November 2006, St.Xavier’s College Mapusa, officially
inaugurated their Biotechnology Laboratory at the hands of Shri. Luizinho
Falleiro, Honorable Minister for Education and Industry. The Inaugural was
followed by a one-day state level seminar on the ‘Internationalization of
Higher Education’ organized by St.Xavier’s College, Mapusa in association
with the H. R. College of Economics and Commerce, Mumbai.

The seminar dealt with the need for internationalization of Higher
Education since “Globalisation has reached a stage where the world is
borderless” as stated by Professor Newman Fernandes, Principal of St.
Xavier’s College, Mapusa. Shri. Falleiro, the Chief Guest, stressed that
“India is losing out on its foreign exchange due to many students going
abroad, and so it is important that an international level of Higher
Education be provided in India.” The Guest of Honour, Dr. B. A. Gomes,
Director of Higher Education and Principal of Government College, Pernem,
emphasized on finding out how Higher Education can be made more responsive
to the internationalization of Higher Education.

The seminar was divided into three sessions led by the faculty of H. R.
College, Mumbai. Vice-Principal Prof. Rekha Bahadur spoke about
International Faculty Development programs at H. R. College; Prof. Shamira
Abdulla, International Programmes Officer who spoke about Student Centred
Programmes and Prof. Gehna Hingorani, who gave an overview of
Internationalization of Education, and also provided insight on the Study
India Programme, Funding and Research.
