With rains likely to play spoilsport the 5123 delegates who have paid up for the 11 days extravaganza at the IFFI 2006 will have to keep their fingers crossed.
When this writer visited the venue of the IFFI 2006 there were rehearsals underway at the Campal grounds and the Kala Academy where the Films Bazaar and the screenings of "Volver" and others will be underway. With Shashi Kapoor making it for the opening ceremony for the third year Amitabh Bachaan has been sidelined (apparently owing to differences with the UPA Chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi ) The volunteers who have been paid Rs 250/- per day were all taking positions of their gruelling 11 day itinery so were the CONSTANT security personnel. There was no visible signs of threat perception however there were several plainsclothe police personnel keeping a watchful eye on the goings on. The traffic promises no snarls but it will only be the coming days that will tell. The films bazaar is now within the precincts of the Kala academy and therefore they expect good business. Several applicants who could not get delegate passes as they did not meet the qualifications of cine wary citizens and they numberd a good 559 found their applications rejected.
