Dear Cornel, Mario's understanding of labour relations, even in the context of the US, is limited at best or selective at worst. The concept of "Employment at will" was devastate in the 1960s and through the 1970s, with series of legislation, that shredded the idea that all conditions pertaining to employment were to be determined at will between employer and employee.
No where in the world, are the employer and employee equals to affect a fair bargain. Hence, the employee is always protected. But for legislation, the world would never see such benefits as maternity leave, disability, pension, minimum wage, etc. This post started as a commentary on the working conditions of the labouring class in Goa. If Mario is under the impression that the free market is capable of ensuring equality to this most deprived section of society, then he might as well be spouting this from planet Krypton. selma ---------------------------------- --- Cornel DaCosta <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Selma > The content of the post below strikes me as surely, > one of the daftest, or > possibly hilarious, sent to Goanet in reply to you. > > I am afraid it is absolutely my business and the > business of millions of my > fellow trade unionists, the world over, to ensure > that individual workers > are not cajoled, or persuaded otherwise, to accept > wages and benefits below > a living wage as determined through negotiation > between government, > employers and workers. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
