This year's Goa Sudharop Awards were presented on November 20, 2006 at Hotel Mandovi, Panjim.
The Board and management of Goa Sudharop (USA-based non-profit volunteer organisation) were pleased to present their annual awards at a function held at Hotel Mandovi, Panjim, on November 20. The awards were based on the theme "Year of the Senior". Fellowships (cash and a memento), were awarded to: 1. Sr. Allen D'Souza who runs senior homes and takes care of the old. 2. Mr. Madhukar Yeshwant Mordekar, founder of Forum of Senior Citizens - Margao. 3. Dr Francisco Colaco, eminent cardiologist and committed social activist. 4. Dr John Carmo Rodrigues - eminent microbiologist and author of medical books. Cash awards were also presented to four Old Age homes: 1. Care for the Old, Raia, for extension work of their Old Age home complex. 2. Sneha Mandir for their Mobile clinic project. 3. Sanjeevan, Ponda, for their Home Care project. 4. Ishaprema Niketan (Fr. Rego), Assagao, towards the upkeep of their Old Age home. The entertainment programme featured a Kunbi dance and Corredinho by Goan Antiques group, songs in Konkani and a graceful ballet by the students of Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao. Goa Sudharop President Mrs. Acaria Almeida welcomed the audience and Goa Sudharop representative Mr. Ibonio D'Souza presented the annual report. The function was compered by Goa Sudharop volunteers Melinda Powell and Valerie Rodrigues. Thank you for your support.
