Dear Anthony Veronica, It is my suggestion that rather than expect one person to sponsor the entire project (if that is your meaning), you would do well to take the project in hand and present it to all Goanetters as a worthwhile cause.
Take Mervyn Lobo's (of Toronto) example and run a raffle with the tickets being USD 10.00 each and get a few prizes donated by well-wishers. That way you get everybody to feel proud to participate and help a Goan cause and you do not ask people to dig deep into their pockets. Better 10 dollars each from 500 Goans than 5000 dollars from one Goan, though if the 5000 dollars does come from a single person that would be welcome too. At 10 dollars each time I would be willing to donate to 20 or more Goan causes throughout one year rather than be asked to donate 200 dollars to one single cause. Of course I may donate that amount to one single Goan cause that touches me, but it would be extra to those 20 causes. And please do not expect Goans in the west to take on all the burdens. We will carry our share but remember that Goans in the Gulf earn tax-free dollars which we do not do. I am making no comparisons other than saying each of us has a duty and responsibility to help others wherever we are and in whatever way we can.
