To answer Alfred's question if ILI was "segregated", I don't think that casteism prevailed there. However, many members of this institute were well-to-do Goans. One of the most popular activities here was playing pool, not my favourite sport. I did not interested in becoming its member for the sole reason that its library, once a treasure house, was reduced to few books. The valuable books were taken by members and never returned. Similar fate fell on the Catholic Library at Cavel. Though much smaller in size to ILI, the library was robbed of its books by members. ILI was vastly different from Catholic Gymkhana. The gymkhana was said to be "elitist". For more than a decade and half, Dr. Leon de Souza ruled it with firm authority.
