15:3 IST Rajya Sabha The proposal of merger of the two airlines in under active consideration of the Government. This information was given to the Parliament, by Shri Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation. The merger of two airlines is likely to provide following benefits: 7 Provide an integrated international/domestic footprint which will significantly enhance customer proposition and allow easy entry into one of the three global airline alliances; 7 Enable optimal utilization of existing resources through improvement in load factors and yields on commonly services routes as well as deploy freed up aircraft capacity on alternate routes; 7 Provide an opportunity to fully leverage strong assets, capabilities and infrastructure; 7 Potential to launch high growth & profitability businesses(Ground Handling Services (GHS); 7 Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) etc; 7 Potentially enable merged entity to command better valuation; 7 Operate a combined fleet strength which will be largest in India and comparable to other airlines in Asia/Region; 7 Provides maximum flexibility to achieve financial and capital restructuring.
