Hi Mervyn,

I have been informed of hollow walking sticks concealing a sword. So your
response in not a guess.
However, since you likely had firsthand experience of your grandfather's
walking stick, the question I have: Was such a walking stick heavy and
cumbersome to use routinely when taking a stroll?
Or was the "hollow walking stick" used under exceptional situation as a "Trojan
Horse?"
Thanks for enlightening us.

Another application of the walking stick was its unique tap served to herald
the arrival of its owner in the days where there were no door bells.
Kind Regards, GL

My guess is that the walking stick concealed a weapon. My grandfather had one
with a sword in it. The idea was that if a bandit tried to rob him, he would
raise the stick and try to hit the bandit in a slow motion. When the bandit
tried to stop the hit, the owner would neatly pull the stick away leaving the
bandit with a casing and the owner with a sword.
