Frederick, There was also a time (does it co-incide with the time when the editors of the local newspapers were thick as thieves) when there was an unseemly rush of journalists of all hues in Goa (you may not have been in the picture then) to be first in line to grab the government allotment of flats in Porvorim for journalists. Leading to accusations then, that all the Goa Govt needed to do, to make journalists "forget" everything, or worse still support their point of view, was to hold out the bait of a flat allotment. Nowadays, the Govt doesn't need to do even that. They just ignore what the newspapers write and our local dreamers think that Goa will improve, nevertheless. The wasteful expenditure on IFFI being one example. Very little brainpower needed to estimate that no more than 10 cents on the dollar (or 10 paise on the rupee) must have actually gone into genuine IFFI expense. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Goanet supports BMX, the alumni network of Britto's, St Mary's and Xavier's -- three prominent institutions in Mapusa, Goa.
