This is with reference to the NT report of Dec 3 reproduced yesterday: 1.< It was also disclosed that the Navy has given 84 per cent of the time to civil operation. ... He also clarified that the navy has restricted the civil operation at Dabolim airport for only four and half hours that is from 8.30 a.m morning till 1 p.m.>
It is hard to make sense of this information unless we are told "84% of what time... 4 days, 5 days, 6 days or 7 days (per week)". This is because in one place we were told that the flight training was for 4 days of the week miondays-Thursdays) while sometimes we are told it runs for 5 days of the week. There needs to be some consensus in Goa as to the number of days a week the flight training is being done at Dabolim. The other point is about the hours involved. Here they add up to 4.5 hours per day. But in the HERALD report of the same press conference the timings of civil operations have been given as 6.30 am to 8 am and 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm. Furthermore, SriLankan Airways has a departure time of 8.30 am. Elswhere I read that military flight training is scheduled for an hour in the evening as well. So what are the correct timings of civil and military operations each day of the week? Finally, if "there are no takers for civilian night operations" then the 84% has to be adjusted downwards by knocking off 12 hours per day during flight training days. Both the Navy and the media have to go back to the drawing boards and come up with the bare facts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Goanet supports BMX, the alumni network of Britto's, St Mary's and Xavier's -- three prominent institutions in Mapusa, Goa.
