Mario,

We (Filomena, Jorge, myself) met Cardinal Lourdaswamy in March 2000 (I wrote
earlier it was April
2000 but I was courting my current wife then and my timeline is lost in a
romantic blur). Filomena
and Jorge will remember the exact month. However, Cardinal Lourdaswamy is in
the twilight of his
life and cannot do much. I am sorry to write non-whites do not have much say in
the Vatican. I
have heard Cardinal Ivan Dias was transferred to the Vatican because he is
unpopular in India but
has no say in Rome. One Goan priest wrote to me he would leave the Catholic
Church if Ivan Dias
became Pope last year.

As you have noted, Filomena knows much about the sainthood process and in
October 1999 visited the
Papal Nuncio in Washington DC to petition for the Blessed Vaz cause. She has
left no stone
unturned but unfortunately, support from Goan priests, nuns and laity is
lacking. In many
instances they have stood in the way. I don't know if this is a Goan trait -
how many Goans want
to HELP other Goans and promote them? I think the majority would rather sing
and dance and
organize mindless church feasts which benefit no one.

Regards,
George
