Hi Santosh,
Fully concur with your message in your post below! We should discourage mere
posting names of famous Goans without (the poster) taking the interest in
telling us why the individual is famous - just as you have done. As one other
poster alluded, we tend to name a famous Goan just because he is a "mamticho
puth" from our village.
The purpose of "Great Goan" list is for the individuals to serve as a role
model for young Goans to emulate, specially those may have similar interests.
Some of the famous Goan doctors mentioned on the list, certainly served as a
role model for me, in addition to breaking the glass ceiling for those that
followed them.
To switch gears and on a lighter note, the following is a true account from
personal experience. On one of my visits to Goa, I was traveling by the camiao
from Aldona to Mapuca. One regular commuter knew I was a visitor.
He asked me, "where are you from?"
I replied, "I live in America."
He went on, "Do you know my cousin? He is in America and is very famous."
I replied, "Do you know his name?"
Aldonkar: "No idea, but I know he is very famous. You should know him."
Me: "Do you know where he lives in America?"
Aldonkar: "No idea, but I know he is very famous. You should know him."
Me: "Do you know what he does?"
Aldonkar: "No idea, but I know he is very famous. You should know him."
This is not a made-up story. You know I would not make fokana of my gaumkar.
Kind Regards, GL
