On Colva beach, crabs do not want to leave the bucket and pull each other back
to safety since
they don't want any of their fellow crabs to end up as crab xacutti in Pedru's
shack restaurant.
On Baga beach, crabs pull each other back, since they don't want any crab to
end up as the lone
crab on Baga beach surrounded by high-rise condos under the 2011 Regional plan.
In Old Goa, crabs pull each other into the bucket since they do not want to end
up in the proposed
new garbage site, crushed by disposal trucks.
In Moira, the crabs have no idea why they are pulling each other back into the
bucket, but since
it works in Aldona, why not in Moira?
At the Mapusa market, the crabs pull each other back since they don't want to
be sold. They are
fed-up with Mrs. Fernandes bargaining every Friday for another 5 rupees less.
Unlike crabs at the
Siolim tar, they feel they are worth at least 8 rupees more. This is more a
crab self-esteem
issue.
In Canacona, crabs pull each other down in the bucket since they do not want
crabs to leave the
safety of the bucket and witness the mess of the rest of Goa and various other
countries
(especially the mess in countries where NRGs live).
The Goan crab mentality is very diverse and multi-faceted. Now you know the
