Help others be BETTER INFORMED, The time is come for the people of Goa to ORGANISE not AGONISE !! --------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN to observe Road Safety Week from 2nd January 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN will continue its Campaign on Road Safety and Traffic Management in 2007 by observing Road Safety Week from 2nd to 8th January with a series of street actions in North and South Goa so as to harness the potential of the consumer in creating the necessary awareness to prevent further fatalities. While the statistics of deaths on the roads of Goa are shocking, a lot needs to be done in the area of Road Safety and Traffic Management with the direct involvement of the Goan consumer to Organise and not Agonise over the matter.
Lack of knowledge of the rules of the road, unsafe driving practices, sale of fake helmets & seat belts, lack of maintainence of speed breakers & rumbler strips, the need for Road Safety Patrols (RSP) to be set up in every High School and HSS, Comfortable, Affordable and Safe travel by public transport, a Road Engineering Cell to plan and facilitate proper road works in the Public Works Department (PWD), all these issues and more will be highlighted by GOACAN during this week. GOACAN through the village based Consumer Forums is advocating for the preparation of localized Traffic Management Plans at the Panchayat & Municipal level besides encouraging the Consumer Welfare Cells to prepare Traffic Management Plans for their respective educational institutions. GOACAN will shortly launch a mobile poster exhibition on the theme "For Road Safety & Traffic Management to be Effective, the Goan Consumer needs to be Active" which will be followed by two district level workshops for village based Consumer Forums and campus based Consumer Welfare Cells to chalk out a strategy & action plan for 2007. ------------------------------------------------------------ GOA CIVIC AND CONSUMER ACTION NETWORK ----------------------------------------------------------- promoting civic and consumer rights in Goa ----------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN Post Box 187 Margao, Goa 403 601 GOACAN Post Box 78 Mapusa, Goa 403 507 mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------------------------------- -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
