Freedom fighters oppose honouring of Dr Coissora

PANJIM, DEC 29 - The veteran freedom fighters of Goa have expressed their strong opposition to the honoring of Dr Naraina Coissaro in the Global Goans convention, scheduled to be held in Goa on January 3, 2007.

In a memorandum submitted on behalf of the action committee of Goan Freedom Fighter to Eduardo Faleiro commissioner NRI affairs, Goa the freedom fighters Prabhakar Sinari, Flaviano Dias, Pandurang Kunkalienkar, Sudodh Dhetye, Narsinva Panchwadkar and Nagesh karmali have started that Dr Coissoro who always opposed Goa's liberation from Portuguese colonial rule should not be honoured under any circumstances on the soil of free Goa.

It is also stated in the memorandum that Dr Coissoro was writing articles in local Portuguese's dailies during 1956 to 1960 the last phase of Goa's freedom struggle, condemning the liberation movement and also criticizing the fighters who were working for the liberation.

In the recent past in the month of May 2004, when this Dr Coissoro was on a visit to Goa had blamed Pandit Nehru for liberating Goa with the help of military. Therefore freedom fighters have demanded to cancel the programme of honoring Dr Coissoro immediately.

The copies of the memorandum also has been sent to governor and chief minister of Goa.
