LISBON: India, which had to fight a legal battle to get back gangster Abu Salem, may soon sign an extradition treaty with Portugal. Both countries are likely to sign it next week when Portuguese president Anibal Cavaco Silva visits New Delhi.

Sources said a team comprising members of the Portuguese justice ministry had already reached New Delhi to take a final view of the draft of the extradition treaty. There were indications that the Portuguese authorities would agree to a treaty on the lines of the ones India has with other European Union countries, including UK.
