[Goanet] The Three Kings Feast in Cansaulim - These Three Kings belong to any
particular
so-called Caste?
Yes Cip,
There exist such caste system.
When I first realised, about two years ago, I did post on Goanet etc
The 3 king there must always come from Gaumkars (Chaddi) from three different
wards i.e.
Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim.
see a file pic 1 of the 3 kings

Not only this, last year I was told, that One giant image of (dead) Jesus
christ stays there
closed. They used to take it for procession on Good Friday every year but again
this was done
by the red-comfrad (gaumkars again). It seems, about 25 years back a fight
broke out between
the community as to why only they are allowed to carry the image and why we are
not ?
Since then the poor Jesus Christ remained closed underneath an altar.
There are other churches too where this caste system exists. Just 2 or 3
members of comfraria
virtually running the whole church and the Parish Priest and even the Bhishop
house has no
powers whatsoever. Even when it comes to Cofraria/chuch properties, the
decision of just one
or two confraria members seems to be final and no one can even appeal against
the descision.
although all fabriques/confraria affairs is run from Althinno Bishop Palace,
they have no
power over the one or two men decision.
That's why I repeatedly said, the church should clear up it backyard first
before interfering
with the politics etc.

Ok, coming back to these 3 kings.
Has any body seen the state of these young kids/kings ?
Poor kids (age group 6-10) seen tired, exhaused, they even faint
(see video, see their faces)
They leave their home at around 8 am to be there on time up on the hill for 10
o'clock mass.
The horses which they ride on are brought from Belgaum. The sit on it and
their jorney starts
around 8 am they cannot use any other short cuts but follow the age old 3
routes/paths thru
vilages, fields, jungle etc. Then they climb up on the hillock about 30 minutes
climbing with
the horse. Then the high mass about 90 minutes then they all 3 come down on
different path
then pass thru the field out in the open hot sun. Then they make their
traditional stops at
fixed stations when people gather to kiss the small Cross they are carrying,
some will passed
underneath the horse and most come there heads to be crowned by each of the
kings crown. This
is the age old traditon at last they will come at Cansaulim churh and this is
around 2pm from
here they all 3 will disperse to their respective homes/routes. The last one at
Arosim will
arrive home only after 3pm. Imagagine, what these young kids/kings must be
going throug for
10 hrs of ordeal. Can we stop this cruelty to children ?
Horses on which these kids riding could go wild too seeing people crowed, loud
fire crackers
sound etc (see video)
The 3 king those days, over 2000 years ago, were adults, why not adults can
become 3 kings ?
what stops them ? The age old tradition ? Child organisations in Goa (if any)
can look into
this ? What about the Church ? Can they do anything thing about this ?
Sorry, video will be coming in a few hours time.
<< Father Zeserin D'Souza, a priest at the Our Lady Remedious Chapel,
Cansaulim talked of the universality of God. "God is not God only of
Catholics but the God of all the nations and of all the people irrespective
of creed, caste and religion," he said. >>
On 06th Jan the Cansaulim Feast was great and very impressive, attended by
many Hindus as well, however, later in the day I learnt that these three
persons who dresses-up like Kings on the horse-back always belong to a
particular caste.
Can any netter confirm the above statement?
If this satement is correct then it appears that the majority of Catholic
Cansaulimcars appear to be very backward encouraging to divide Catholic
religious ceremonies based on caste system?
Is this what Jesus thought them to practice in 21st century?
