Dear Fred,
Was so pleased to see the publicity you've given to a great educationist and
son of Goa -the late Edward Soares, , founder Principal of St. Thomas High
School, Aldona.
As one who passed out from this school, and came under the influence of this
'gentle giant', I was delighted to receive a copy of the souvenir brochure
from his daughter, and must congratulate the Principal Edward Soares
Memorial Committee on bringing out this timely tribute. There must be
hundreds of ex-students scattered the world over who owe a great debt of
gratitude to this selfless and unassuming man. His greatness lay in his
simplicity and genuine desire to help the less fortunate in society.Unlike
the world we live in today, where making a quick buck regardless of the
morality behind this, Edward Soares, by his very example, was a man ready to
give all without counting the cost.
Perhaps, if the idea of producing such a brochure had been widely
publicised in advance, many more glowing tributes would have been
forthcoming from grateful ex-students and sons of Goa alike.
The erection of a life-size statue highlighting the contribution this
great son of Goa made in the educational sphere, is a fitting tribute to
unique character.
