This month's Goanet operations sponsored by Mrs. Daisy Faleiro ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To sponsor Goanet operations, contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FYI.. --- Diana & Diamond Carvalho <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: When February and March roll around and the U.S. celebrates African American Heritage Month and Women's History Month respectively, we should remember that Women fought for their rights before African Americans. Women in the U.S. had no rights, and in the struggle for women's suffrage, they championed the cause of African Americans, also a group that had no rights. Ironically, African American men achieved the right to vote, own property and be called citizens in the U.S. before women of any color. The Women's Rights Movements (first and second wave) did a lot of work to move things along for the Civil Rights Movement - there were so many women like Rosa Parks, but she was the first one who made a difference. Also, the Women and African Americans who fought for their rights were one part of the puzzle - there were white Men who helped them and made it possible for them to achieve great things, by opening up the law and social norms to accepting change. So, when U.S. Goans give thanks for the rights they have, they should remember all the pieces of the puzzle that made it possible. Never take for granted your right to vote - your people did not have that right once. Best wishes, D.
