Not being a Goanet admin member any long comes like a draft of fresh
air. You don't have to behave very responsibly, you can slip without a
warning into talking nonsense (not too often, or it wouldn't have the
desired effect....) and you could actually share some details about
life beyond cyberspace.
Coping with the December-January rush of visitors to Goa can be
trying. Also fun.... There are so many of them. The Goan expats are a
shade better than colleagues across India, who expect you to help
arrange accomodation in the only week when Goa has all its hotel beds
packed. Or would like to pretend so.
One Goanetter (who's that?) phoned me a couple of times today ...
offering me a fishing trip.
Fishing? What's that? (As you guys know, those of us who live in Goa
are hardly infactuated by the beach or the sea. That's for you
urbanites to romanticise.) Even more strange, he kept talking about
the boatman having agreed to do the trip. Agreed? To what? This had me
verrrry confused.
It later turned out that my number was mixed up with some other
Goanetter's name (and hence the "agreed" fishing trip!)
There was this other Goanetter who wanted a photo of a third
Goanetter, currently in Goa. Just to identify him, and surprise him!
And you thought that Goanetters didn't have a life outside cyberspace?
Maybe Goanetters will once again learn to take ourselves less
seriously :-)
