My dear friends,

I fail to understand this unfortunate imbroglio.

I organized the tamasha, Jan 26, to launch a famed French calvados
in India; at my nieceĀ“s place CocoLoco, in Agassaim.

Cecil, Merwyn & Valmiki were the first to arrive on time, 17.30 sharp.

Others, Mario M, Rajan, Tara joined up gradually.

Eduardo turned up around 8 pm.

We all sat in a circle carrying on a spirited repartee & must have broken
up past ten.

I was a bit on my feet looking after the guests and although I may not
have the entire exchange but there was, surely, nothing accrimonious.

I even remember mentioning that Eduardo was in his best 70s fettle.

I also saw saw Merwyn talking a good deal. i thought the whole thing went
rather well.

Tara, I have left the imprisoned apple with Mario Sequeira. If you have
a report out pls e-mail me a copy.

The following appeared on GoaNet:

Dear Sir, This is with reference to a posting on Goanet by Merwin Lobo
regarding his meeting with Hon. Commissioner for NRI Affairs, Mr. Eduardo
Faleiro.

At a fairly large gathering last Friday, Mr. Lobo introduced himself to Mr.
Eduardo Faleiro. One of those present added that Mr. Lobo wanted to make
large investments in Goa.

Mr. Lobo sought advice on investment opportunities. Mr. Faleiro told him to
contact Mr. U.D.Kamat, Director NRI Affairs.

Mr. Faleiro was aware of previous e-mails by Mr. Lobo on Goanet and had no
private talk of any kind with him. Mr. Lobo asked to take a photograph with
Mr. Faleiro. The interaction lasted for a minute or so and not "a few hours"
as claimed by Mr. Lobo. None of the matters mentioned by him were discussed
and his report is a figment of a rather fertile and malicious imagination.

Yours sincerely (Dipti Verlekar) Secretary to Commissioner for NRI Affairs

==============   jc's two cents worth:===================

I have personally met Mervyn Lobo and spent several hours with him and other
Goans in Toronto. It is my impression that Mervyn is an absolutely
honourable man. 100% ...no question in my mind.

The late wife of Mr. Faleiro was well known to and a very good friend of
(during their Instituto years) my wife.

I personally remain a very strong fan of two Faleiros and just two Faleiros
from Goa (Valmiki and Eduardo)

Having read Mr. Lobo's posting and now this response, I have a set of
queries:

1. Did Ms Verlekar write the above note on behalf of Mr. Faleiro? If so,
why has she not said so?

2. Was Ms. Verlekar present during the entire duration of the contact
between Mr. Faleiro and Mr. Lobo? If so, why has she not stated so? If Ms
Verlekar were to say so ...can Mr. Lobo confirm (or deny) Ms. Verlekar's
presence/absence during the "hours" he allegedly spent with Mr. Faleiro?

3. If Ms. Verlekar wasn't present for the entire duration of the
Lobo-Faleiro contact, how does she justify this post without qualification?

4. On what basis does Ms Verlekar state her knowledge of Mr. Faleiro's
awareness of Mr. Lobo's emails to GoaNet? How is Ms. Verlekar aware of
another person's awareness? (In this case Mr. Faleiro's awareness). Did Mr.
Faleiro tell her that? If so ...why has it not been mentioned?

5. On what basis does Mr. Lobo state that Eduardo Faleiro has not heard of
Goanet ? Did Mr. Faleiro tell him that? If so ...why has it not been
mentioned?

6. Mr. Lobo says that he spent a few hours with Eduardo Faleiro. Ms.
Verlekar notes that the interaction lasted for a minute or so. Can Mr. Lobo
clear the air here?

7. On what basis has Ms. Verlekar written that Mr. Lobo's "imagination" was
"malicious"? On what basis is Malice being insinuated?

8. If Ms. Verlekar is truly the secretary of Mr. Faleiro (the NRI
Commisioner) - a post with Cabinet rank, why did she not take the care to
spell the name of Mr. Lobo correctly? Is Mervyn spelt Merwin in Goa?

and finally a query to Goanet Admin:

9. Did Ms Verlekar state anywhere that she was writing on behalf of or at
the behest of Mr. Faleiro? If so, why has that not been posted on GoaNet?
If she did not, On what basis have you allowed Ms. Verlekar to post as Mr.
Faleiro?

10. Remember now: Your actions have in effect enabled Ms. Verlekar to claim
(as mr. Faleiro) that Mr. Mervyn Lobo has Misrepresented Maliciously.

THAT ...may or may not be true!

just asking my questions like I normally do.

As Vidyaghar says ( a la Karl) ....Question everything

sincerely

jc
