Dear Goanetters,
There's a typo in my answer to Bernado regarding rigging in the election
polls. The correct date for the first legitimate elections in Goa, based on a
democratic adult franchise, is October 24, 1962, not October 24, 1972, as
appeared in my original message below.

There also seems to be some confusion in some minds about what polls we
are talking about. The Opinion Poll, which took place in 1967, did not
result in the election of a "Hindu" government. The first legitimate
elections in Goa based on a democratic adult franchise took place on October
24, 1972, and resulted in the election of 148 village panchayats.
