http://www.goa-world.com/expressions/valentines/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Jerry, Darwin's Theory of Evolution is not a 'belief' system, it is the ONLY comprehensive explanation of how we came to be that has been verified and cross-verified by various unrelated scientific disciplines. It does not say that 'man came from apes' but rather that human beings (homo sapiens sapiens) had a common ancestor with other primates (bonobo apes, chimpanzees) 6-7 million years ago. We also had common ancestors with rodents 75 million years ago and with sharks, 450 million years ago. It is the time spans involved which are incomprehensible to our thinking that make species transitions so incredulous. When you consider that 99.99% of every species that ever evolved have gone extinct, what chance do you think we have of surviving in our current form for the next million years (if what we are doing to the earth leaves it inhabitable)? Plants changed the atmosphere with their excretion of (at that time toxic) oxygen over a billion years ago which allowed the proliferation of other life forms. As the levels of CO2 and trapped heat increase in the atmosphere, our bodies will have to evolve coping mechanisms or succumb to extinction (if we haven't wiped each other out with religious wars before then ;-) Kevin Saldanha Mississauga, ON. .............. If they believe in Darvins theory of evolution of man, that man came from Apes, than as per science encyclopedia it says that man came from apes about a million or two years ago. So is it a process that as Apes changed to man, than man will change into some other creatures as years pass by? Just curious.
