Is it 50 or 30 years old rift..?
Perhaps, it is 50 years for Bombay and 30 years for Goa Fr.Agnel Ashram ?
I also remember reading a circular in this respect (about the home coming or
re-union), in
here on Goanet thru the usual chanel of Bishop House some where in late Nov.
last year ?
Is that same as this one ?
I am bit confused.
And I always wanted to know the reason behind this split or rift and I never
got one.
We were even given to understand (those days) that a group of priests from
Pilar society run
away with huge cash etc
I remember early 1980's I think, that Priest in churches told the devotees not
to attend to
their religious serices including Masses etc and even circulated handbills.
But people from neary area (Verna Ashram) continued to go there for Sunday
Masses etc ignoring
church order or advice. (Later, in the same decade, church also adivsed all
thru their regualr
'Xermao' and hand bills to joined in the 'human chain' rally in protest against
the Konkan
Railway route, that rally went flop too)
It reminds me of typical political parties where we see 'splits' and then 'home
coming'.
In political parties, only the strong and influential defectors are taken back.
I wonder what would have been the fate of Ashram Fathers if they did not run a
network of
schools and institutes including engineering colleges which are popular all
over India?
Just wodering if such official information has come from Goa Archbishop house
advising Goan
Catholics that they can now attend the religious services at the Agnel Ashram
at Verna.

Mumbai: Church ends 50-yr-old rift with Agnel Ashram
Mumbai Feb 7: A five-decade-old rift between the Catholic
Church and the missionaries that run the Father Agnel Ashram in
Bandra has been resolved. The Ashram was set up by some priests
of a Pilar-based order in Goa, Society of the Missionaries of St
Francis Xavier.
