SUPPORT FOR ROMI KONKANI.
In an emergency meeting held today in Kuwait City by Kuwait Konknni Kendr to
discuss the issue of Roman Script Konkani and the current development on
this subject, KKK unanimously decided to support strongly and wholeheartedly
the move initiated by Fr. Conceicao Silva, convenor of Romi Lipiechi
Chollvoll to demand equal status to Romi Script Konkani too on par with
Devanagri Script.
Secondly KKK in its deliberation said that asking recognition for Roman
script Konkani is our right and nobody can deny this to us though for the
last 20 years we Romivadis kept our silence thinking that few selfish
Nagrivadis like Bhembres, Mauzos, Naiks, Kelekars, Borkers, Shivades and
such others will accommodate Romivadis with Nagrivadis. But, no, Nagrivadis
and especially the above mentioned persons and their supporters are acting
like racists. It is we the Romivadis who got recognition for Konkani. It is
we the Romivadis who gave our blood for attaining recognition for Konkani.
It is we the Romivadis who suffered martyrdom for the sake of Konkani.
Nagrivadis are enjoying the benefits of our sacrifices and still denying us
our birth rights. KKK condemns the selfish attitude of Nagrivadis.
Thirdly KKK strongly opposes Rane Governments decision to elevate Marathi
on par with Konkani. This is not acceptable to us. Marathi is not our
enemy. It is a rich language but it is not the language of Goa and Goans.
It is because of this language that Goa was devided from the time of Dec.
1961. Marathi has its home where it is well supported and well protected.
We dont want an additional language in Goa. All the Congressmen and
Congress MLAs must take this point into consideration before supporting
this Marathi issue in Goa. Rane is a very cunning person. He is the
product of MGP brought up into the cradle of Dayananda Bandodkar and since
this is the case, surely he will support Marathi even though Marathi was
already given a level of respect into the Goa language act. Rane was
instrumental as Chief Minister of Goa to create problems for us in Goa
because of language issue. He is anti Goan, anti-Romi. Because of him we
lost 7 souls as martyrs of Konkani 20 years back headed by Florian Vaz from
Cogol Margao. We do not want further elevation of Marathi in Goa. Everyone
in Goa should be careful of Rane and his foxy moves. By being long time in
Goan politics and as long time Chief Minister of Goa he has acquired the
habbit of a feudal lord. KKK also caution all the Congress MLAs especially
those who got elected on the strength of the votes of Romivadis.
Fourthly KKK is very pleased to know that priests like Fr. Conceicao has
finally got up to challenge the Nagrivadis in support of Romivadis. I am
sure casteists and racists Nagrivadis will oppose Fr. Conceicao and other
priests supporting this issue saying that priests should refrain from
involving into such topics. But Nagrivadis and our opponents should know
that because of Church and priests Konkani remained alive in Goa. Goa
Church made Konkani as the liturgical language while Nagrivadis made Marathi
and Sanskrit as their liturgical languages. It is also due to the efforts
and support of Goa Church and priests that Konkani got recognition and
because of this recognition Nagrivadis are enjoying financial and other
benefits. We dont want Brahminic Konknni, we dont want Sanscritic Konknni
imposed on us against our wish by a few crook Nagrivadis.
Finally KKK ended its proceedings by requesting every true Goan in Kuwait,
in the Gulf and anywhere in the World to come out with open support for the
cause of Roman Script Konkani. Let every Goan Association everywhere in the
World support this cause. KKK and its supporters are not against Nagri
Konkani nor are they against Marathi. KKK and its supporters are only
asking for equal status for Romi Konkani on par with Nagri Konkani. Let Rane
and other Nagrivadis should know that we the expatriate Goans are not the
silent spectators over this issue. Let NRI Commissioner Edward Faleiro come
out openly in support of Romi Konkani since he is representing NRI Goans who
are overwhelmingly in support of Romi Konkani.
