To, The Editor Navhind Times Kindly treat this letter and publish in the interest of Goa economy so that Goa should have only one airport and not two as per the announcement made by Parrilar recently ( enclosed from NT news dt 4.12.2013).
My question to the present Chief Minister of Goa Mr Manohar Parrikar is that who has done this four lane alignment which was falling in the site of new integrated terminal building of Dabolim ? Was it done with some intentions that Mopa airport to surface in near future? In that case the credit need go to either Sripad nor Pratap Rudi for the construction of this new terminal. The question to our Chief Minister of Goa, is why we need two airports for this tiny territory? Our economics will go down as there is no need to have two airports at this stage, may be we could wait and watch and act accordingly. Who knows what will be our tourism scenario of Goa? If it shifts to some other states, in that case Mopa will be a wastage. There are strong news which gives us to understand that the work of the present Tourism minister is not upto the mark. CM did not fire his guns right now but wait and see. There is no hurry for Mopa to come. Mining is already on oxygen. VASCO: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday reiterated the need for Mopa airport in North Goa district along with Dabolim airport in South Goa. Addressing a large gathering during the ‘soft-launch’ of the new integrated terminal building of Dabolim airport, Parrikar claimed that the construction of the new terminal has been possible due to the efforts of North Goa MP Shripad Naik and former civil aviation minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy. “Earlier, the site for new integrated terminal building of Dabolim airport was falling under the alignment of the four-lane highway,” Parrikar said, disclosing that Naik moved a proposal to Rudy who in turn taking cognizance inspected the place and decided to change the site for new terminal. On the Mopa airport, the Chief Minister said the people of Goa need to look to the future of Mopa airport: whether it is feasible or not. As Dabolim airport would not cater to landing of Jumbo aircraft and it would also not augment itself for to handling more and more aircraft in the future. Mopa airport could be the only solution to handle additional aircraft. “In another few years, Dabolim airport in South would be one of the busiest airport and because of which the state would be in need of having two airports,” Parrikar emphasised. He requested Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh to allocate 15 to 20 acres of land which is in the custody of the Indian Navy as the Goa government has allocated enough land to the AAI authorities to expand their infrastructure activities.
