Dear friends,

The Pope has just been named Time’s Person of the Year and for good
reason -- he’s amazing, leading the Church back to its most inspiring
progressive roots. Hard-liners are pushing back against his brave leadership,
but we can help tip the balance for a fairer, freer world for our global
community from many faiths and beliefs when he turns 77 in a week. Sign the
record-breaking birthday card now:

The Pope has just been named Time’s Person of the Year and for good reason --
he’s amazing, leading the Church back to its most inspiring progressive roots
and preaching acceptance and love for everyone.

But his brave leadership has many hard-liners pushing back, threatening
everything he’s fighting for.

If Pope Francis wins this battle of ideas, it’s going to be huge not just for
the world’s Catholics, but for all of us who believe in a fairer, freer world.
We can help tip the balance. Let’s stand with him as a massive global community
from many faiths and beliefs by giving him a world record breaking huge
birthday card when he turns 77 in a week:

In the short months since Pope Francis was ordained, he’s already faced stiff
backlash. The influential Catholic group Opus Dei banned the Pope’s books, a
group of Vatican insiders launched the undercutting 11 point criticism "The War
Against the Pope Begins" and staff at the bank have publicly criticised him
after he launched an investigation into the Vatican bank’s own corrupt
practices.

But keeping Catholics interested in the Church and bringing new people into the
fold is the number one concern of the Vatican, and a huge show of popular
support now could make it clear that the progressive values of the Pope are
helping, not hurting, the Church’s cause.

The Pope’s birthday is the perfect chance to make this happen. Click below to

Our movement has won countless campaigns to change government and corporate
policies. But religion and religious institutions hold huge power in our world,
too, as most people of the world are followers of a faith. To build the world
most people everywhere want we need to help make powerful religious
institutions, with their resources and their reach, a force for love, not
discrimination and division.

With hope,

Joseph, Emma, Ben, Sam, Anna, Luca, Ricken and the rest of the Avaaz team
