St Xavier’s H S Moira had a Science, Art and Handicrafts exhibition last weekend. I visited it on Friday afternoon and enjoyed looking at the various stalls. It was called Shrushti – Nurture to Nature.
The first one I visited was by the middle school. Vivan Abreu who is Napoleon’s son, showed me how polythene milk bags could be recycled. Pooja Navik, Pramita Miranda, Divya Sangodkar and Deepa were displaying doormats made of waste cloth and stockings. Teacher Ancy had taught CD wall hangings, crochet, and cross stitch; Sugandhi Patrawali, Wanisha Sharma, Sanjeev Chavan and Greta Pereira displayed table cloths, and paper bags. A class consisting of students from Std V –VIII had cloth paintings, punch drawings, stone paintings, shell lamps, tetra bag paintings, glass paintings, block paintings The primary stall was manned by Sanjeet Bhogle, Prajay Tuverkar, Saverna Fernandes, and Gracy Fernandes displaying a letter box made of coconut craft; paper flowers, match box toys, ice cream stick toy furniture, paper flowers, a toy pig made of a bottle, wine glasses, and angry bird bottles. In another room, Anusha Naik, Riddhi Salgaonkar, Akansha Nigutakar, from Std VI had a model of the water cycle; Vinay Naik, Jonas Fernandes displayed items made of coconut; as did Saloni Manrekar and Guiomar Rodrigues; Abhishek Morajkar and Avinash Rathod had done paper pulp work. Vijayadutta Lotlikar was the staff in-charge who had guided them. He is an expert on coconut craft and has written a book about this. In the school hall Aniket Belekar showed the difference between plaster of paris and clay idols; Anciola D’Souza, Vrushal Sangodkar had an exhibit about adulteration; Akshay Raul made new wax items from old; Juned Adenwalla had a model of the biosphere; while Joel D’Souza had a model of damage caused by mining. Outside on the grounds, Jovita D’Silva showed Solar Cookers. Apparently these cookers were brought in a Science Exhibition Van. Some parents had used the solar cookers in a cooking competition. Roland Martins of GoaCan had an exhibit regarding consumer welfare. Please forgive any errors or omissions I’ve made in this report as I was not able to cover all the exhibits and get all the names of the students involved. Anyone reading this, do bring it to the notice of students of St Xavier’s, especially the ones I’ve named here.
