Below is Niz Goenkar website heading for the same story. GOA’S HISTORY WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF NOT FOR TEOTONIO PEREIRA Thursday - Dec 19, 2013 --- When I read NG story, I was bit surprised. I read the story on ToI website and saw the heading was different. It's true that Teotonio himself, as UGP MLA, played a role. The ToI is correct in saying that Opinion Poll changed Goa's history but reading NG's heading is misleading. I know (at least knew him more than 30 years ago) as operator of Paulo Travels. I now know that Teotonio is living. Though the focus of the story is on Opinion Poll, it clearly gives credit to Jack de Sequeira. All UG MLAs had to fall in line with Dr. Sequeira's lead in this issue. They all had to play their part to give UGP its standing among the Goans. So, the story is that Teotonio by himself not change Goa's path of history. But NG does things its own way. NG "twists" things to suit itself. In this Christmas season, glory be to those who run this website! The story on Liberation that NG carried yesterday was written two years ago by Rahul Singh, who is a "honourary Goan", having a flat in Colva. He's partly right in the legalistic sense and the gist of the story is that Potugal was colonist. He thinks Portugual would have conceded Goa to India gradually as French did Pondicherry. What he fails to understand is that Portugal NEVER had interest in surrendering Portugal to India and used all diplomatic tries and laws to hang on the colony. Salazar wanted to burn Goa to the ground. So those who believe that Portugal would give Goa to Goans as a separate entity were living in fool's paradise. Goans are ruling Goa and the results are there for all to see. Eugene
