Let me tell you about a recent experience with a prominent Bank which has branches in Goa. Someone from Toronto sent a Moneygram to me to be given to a mutual friend. After 5 separate visits to the Bank on consecutive days, I finally got the money. The money transfer was "all charges/commissions pre-paid". Yet the bank here in Goa tried to take a small commission out of the transfer. I pointed out that the transfer was "all charges/commisions pre-paid", and yet the manager gave me a song and a dance. So I said, "fine, I refuse to sign and accept the money" and will write to Moneygram and the Headquarters of your bank about your dishonesty". The manager realizing that I was not just any yo-yo, conceded and gave me the full amount of money. Having been a bank employee early in my working career, I know that the hallmark of banks is service to customers. Needless to say, when it took 5 trips to the bank and long waits each time to see the right official who "had just gone out and would be back soon", I was hot under the collar. As for airlines and the despicable service I received from them, particularly when Indian Airlines had a monopoly, I can write pages about my experiences, and many volumes about dealing with the bureaucracy. Now, I hope your prediction about the price of Gold pans out, so that I can keep my money in Gold and bury it in my yard somewhere !
