-- Samir Umarye MAYEM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to implement the land acquisition act to resolve the decades- old dispute regarding the Custodian of Evacuee Property at Mayem.
Parrikar gave the assurance while speaking to a panel of members of the Mayem Bhuvimochan Nagarik Kriti Samiti, who called on him on Thursday. Those interacting with the chief minister included Deputy Speaker Anant Shet, Prof Subhash Velingkar, freedom fighter Nagesh Karmali and MBNKS President Kashinath Mayekar. Parrikar informed the delegation that he has prepared a document which will be finalized by considering all legal aspects and requested them to have some patience in the matter. He reportedly told the delegation that as per the new scheme, land would be made available to Mayem villagers at very negligible rate, by taking due precaution to avoid any encumbrances in future. It may be recalled that a large section of villagers from Mayem who were on a strike fast at Panjim, had called off their agitation on December 19, when the Chief Minister had assured them of passing a bill in the next assembly session to enable the government to acquire land at Mayem and provide it to the residents at nominal rates and with clear title, so that the villagers would not have trouble in future. Many of the agitators were not happy over this announcement of the CM. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar interacts with Deputy Speaker Anant Shet and members of MBNKS.
