This is true and I am in total accord.

Once provisions are put in place to prevent sex-trafficing, induction of
minors, undue influence of people living off the avails, over the sex workers,
I see no reason why women should not have the choice of what to do with their
bodies.

Now, it is a common fallacy of men that a woman, especially is she is even the
least bit good looking, who falls on hard times, will rush to sex work if there
are no restrictions. Not true. Women have as much dignity if not more than men
and if they consider this option as being the best one for them then it should
be the duty of the state to provide them with as much protection and safety as
provided to, say, a construction worker, as long as they are not co-erced into
it by others.

The Supreme Court has given the Govt one year to amend the law for exactly such
purposes. In its ruling the SC found current laws ultra vires the Charter of
Rights and Freedoms (our constitution) and while our Dotor Colaco has recently
reminded us that the job of the courts is to uphold the law, he missed
mentioning, inadvertently no doubt, that the courts also need to strike down
laws that violate the country's ultimate law - the constitution.

One should dismiss the picture-possibility of bawdy houses springing up all
over the place, including residential neighborhoods. Our municipalities are
there for exactly that purpose; to regulate the cities' affairs.

In a country where dignity of all labor is widely recognized and practiced,
banning prostitution out of hand and on the basis of obsolete morals alone,
constitues an anomaly which the court has rectified.
